Elders

Bruce Bald
As an Elder of Hope Church my desire is for adults and children to be actively on mission for Jesus, growing to be more like Him, and engaged with others in their community. I’ve been married to Barbara for 42 years (we married young!) and have four grown children (three married) and nine grandchildren. I love the outdoors so you will find me biking, hiking, camping, gardening, boating, or golfing whenever time permits.

I am humbled and blessed to teach and preach at Hope when needed. I have a ministry passion to study scripture, teach, preach, and mentor. One of my favorite doctrines to teach is Spiritual Gifts!
My wife, Deb, and I were married at Hope in 2006. We have four adult children, and nine grandchildren (our youngest was born in June 2020)! We live in North St Paul. Professionally, I manage a team of cyber security investigators for a pharmaceuticals industry company headquartered in Eagan.
If I have a free afternoon, I can be found enjoying time with our grandchildren, playing my guitar, going for a walk with Deb or practicing Tai Chi outdoors – weather permitting of course!!

I have served as an Elder, on and off, for 25+ years and have also served as a teacher and Community Group Leader. My spiritual gifts are Teaching, Discernment, and Knowledge. I love to see people understand and act on the truths of who God is and what His plans are in general and specifically for them. I have a desire to see disciples who love Jesus and stand for him wherever life or culture calls them. Cheryl and I have been married for 44 years. We have six children and seven grandchildren (all girls)! Both Cheryl and I grew up in Billings, Montana and attended Montana State University and graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering which brought us to Minnesota and a job at 3M. I am retired from 3M after 40 years and am now traveling, watching grandkids, and enjoying Astronomy/Astrophotography.

I’ve attended Hope for 21 years and have been active in small group studies, seasonal choir, ushering, and the Saturday Men Group. As an Elder, I hope to connect to and strengthen our congregation through prayer and spiritual support as we go through life together following our Lord Jesus. I recently retired from a 41 year career in chemical process engineering and operations management. I received my Chemical Engineering degree at the University of Minnesota and have worked in Minnesota, Kentucky, and California. My wife Deb and I have two grown, married children and four grandchildren. I enjoy travelling to visit family, gardening, and golf.

My desire for Hope Church is to not only make Christ known as savior, but to help believers walk in obedience with Jesus and by digesting and apply scripture in all aspects of life. I enjoy serving in this capacity and using my spiritual gifts (faith and giving) and my skills to help strengthen the ministry at Hope. I went to the University of Northern Iowa for a degree in accounting and also met my wife, Dori, there. Our daughter and son are both in the process of completing their own university degrees. Professionally, I work as a controller for a home development corporation and am responsible for their accounting functions. I lead a Community Group at Hope and am a part of a group of guys that wrestle with health and job issues, who consistently check on and pray for each other.

It is an honor to serve on the Elder Board. I grew up attending Hope, and though I lived out of state for 15 years, when I returned to Minnesota with my wife and two kids, it was wonderful to also return to Hope. I have a passion for making disciples, following the principles of generational evangelism that we see in 2 Timothy 2:2. Since returning to Hope, I have served as an adult leader with the high school youth group, as well as a musician on the worship team. When I’m not at church or out flying for work, I try to use my time serving my family or meeting with other men to encourage them in their walk with Jesus.
